The most damning statement ever

James Taranto of Best Of The Web watched The Daily Show on Tuesday night, and came up with this gem:

Soderberg: There's always hope that this might not work.

Why is that a gem? Because she's talking about Bush's efforts to bring democracy to the Middle East.

Don't believe me? Read the OpinionJournal.com transcript. Just to make sure he wasn't taking it out of context, I watched that episode myself last night, and Taranto captured what was said virtually word for word.

Some of you still won't believe me.. watch it for yourself.. (4 minutes in)

I've (apparently naively) given the benefit of the doubt to the Democracts who claim that those who want us to fail in our efforts in the Middle East are not mainstream Democrats.

Now.. for those of you who claim that Nancy Soderberg is not a mainstream Democrat, here's her bio:

Nancy Soderberg (New York, NY) was a foreign policy advisor to Bill Clinton from the 1992 campaign through the end of his second term. From 1993 to 1996 she was the third ranking official at the National Security Council, serving as Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, and from 1997 to 2001 she was a U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. She is currently the Vice President and Director of the New York office of the International Crisis Group and a foreign policy analyst for MSNBC.

Which begs the question - if she's not a mainstream Democrat, who the heck is??.

Democrats - as a Libertarian, I have been aghast as the Republicans have grown the size of government, made questionable decisions about torture, about tariffs. I think that they're probably over-reacting on Social Security (not that I assume that I'll actually have any social security income when I retire).

But if the secret center of the Democrats' hearts are hoping that we fail in Iraq, none of that matters. People who hope that the US will fail are not people I want in office, or advising those in office, or serving as an Ambassador representing those in office.

You guys need to fix this...
