Once upon a time

Once upon a time, there was an air force captain in Vietnam. His wife back home was 6 months pregnant when he was killed in action. Unfortunately, people thought he might just be missing in action.

In her grief, and her determination, the wife did all sorts of things. She went to the Vietnamese consul in various countries (Japan, Singapore) to try and secure his release. She was interviewed with her young baby on CBS by Walter Cronkite. (yes, I had my 15 minutes of fame before I was 2 years old)

Based on what I'm seeing today, it seems that the right believes that what she was doing was unpatriotic, and was undermining the war effort.

I can't say how Cindy Sheehan will feel in a year, or two, or five, about what she is doing. I know that my mom felt that she had done what was right, that she had found a constructive outlet for her grief.

And if Cindy Sheehan wants to talk to President Bush, I think that is her right, and she is not 'betraying' her son or 'besmirching' his memory by doing what she is doing.

Because this isn't about politics. This is about love.

Shut up and leave her alone.
