Swanson's Rules of Management - Rule 3
If you are not criticized, you may not be doing much.
Fundamentally, the message here is "If you're not taking risks, you're not helping the organization/project move forward." Life is full of risks, and anytime one tries to change the status quo, there will be people who are afraid of the change, worry about the implications, feel certain that you're wasting time and money.
This is one that I definitely need to work on. I'm pretty sensitive to criticism, and I'll get frustrated fairly quickly if I feel like I'm trying to make things better, and I get criticized for it. I typically shut down after an episode like that.
Think about your own life. Do you let criticism wash off of you, or do you take it personally? Does fear of criticism keep you from trying to a) help others or b) help yourself?
In my experience, this is a big one in the entreprenerial space. If you can let failure become an acceptable part of the journey, instead of a roadblock preventing the journey from starting in the first place, you'll be much, much better off.
