Swanson's Rules of Management - Rule 5

Presentation rule: when something appears on a slide presentation, assume the world knows about it and deal with it accordingly.

This one is a little executorial for Agile Development. But it does strike me as being with the agile principle of honest, open communications. "Traditional" project management, with the heavy emphasis on controlling the message to the senior staff/client/sponsor can give rise to a tendency to "spin" and make a bad thing seem not so bad. In the end, it leads to failed projects, probably far more often than not, because the senior team isn't able to lend their expertise/advice/assistance earlier.

But John, if the execs see a problem, won't they think I'm incompetent? This is a good point, and a difficult challenge - you want to take risks, but you need to balance that with a healthy dose of positive results. But, in any case, remember Rule #3!
