My New Years Resolutions

Resolutions are best done publicly, or you have less incentive to keep them. (Even better is to arrange for a penalty if you don't meet them).

Here are mine:
1) Do the equivalent of 50 Sprint Triathalons this year. That's 25km of swimming, 620m of biking and 155m of running. Another way to think of it is 1 a week for the whole year.
2) Finish the first draft of my second novel by October. I'm at 40k words right now, and my last was 102k. My goal is to reach 100k words for this one (the sequel to the first).
(No, the first one isn't published, I'm working on it)
3) Get my new business site - PicoBusiness up to 100 posts.
4) Get at least 5 people to build graphs using my graphing site besides me.

Observations:
on 1) I have been doing pseudo Triathalons regularly at the Y, and given my past performance, this should be very doable unless I sustain significant bodily injury. Using my Ruby on Rails training project that I built last year, I can track my progress publicly:

(Click on each for a bigger version)
Generally, I plan to do this three days a week, usually MWF, by getting up at 4:45, getting to the Y and working out, and then going in to work.

on 2) I've been working on this book for 3 months now (since October 1st), for the Novel-A-Year competition. My goal so far has been 3k words a week, and if you do the math, you'll see I'm right on schedule. Generally, I get up at around 7 on Saturday and Sunday, and get 1k words written each day, and then either Tuesday or Thursday I get the other 1k done. Sometimes it doesn't work, and sometimes I end up writing more, but it all seems to be averaging out.
I've also created a graph for this as well:

on 3) On its own, this should be no problem - 100 posts is easy to do. The trick will be to balance it with my other resolutions. I plan on doing this mostly at night before bed.

on 4) This one is the only one that I have no direct control over. I can only influence others to try it. That's one of the reasons I'm writing this note. You can sign up for your own goal tracking account here. Feel free to use it - it is free, and easy, and I'm using it for work projects, personal projects, and weight loss tracking.
